Keith Bacongco of Inquirer.Net reported a grim incident in Davao City with residents queuing as early as 1:00 dawn time to get a tag number as proof that they've queued at the Bankerohan market in Davao City that Monday morning. The rice queue is to avail of the cheap rice sold at National Food Authority (NFA) retailers. However the grim scene was that despite the early queuing the retailers started to release the two-kilo rice at around 7:30 a.m. The incident is an offshoot of rice crisis pushing rice price as high as P51 per kilo in the city. This is survival in the Philippines in the modern age.
