Filipino Films still winning international recognition

The recent success of ‘Tribu’ by director Jim Libiran, a digital film that shows the lives and deaths, so to speak, of rapper gangs in Tondo, Manila, renowned for street crimes and notoriety.
Not satisfied with simply doing a chronicle of the actual lives of this street children Jim captures their story as portrayed by real life Tondo kids as actors in the film. To process the Tondo street children they had to be screened and subject to a thorough acting workshop at the Cultural Center of the Philippines with the country’s established acting mentors.
Packaged to almost its pure authentic Tondo Jim and the rest of the cast were able to convince the jury of students and a film reviewer from the film magazine Positif to grant the film the Pari de L’Avenir award. For such genre the Tribu is a breakthrough of its kind and a magnificent success for the whole cast of real life actors in a film.
