Anti-Doping Agency established

Mon, 26 May 2008 20:52:52 -0700

Nearing the Beijing Olympics, athletic events and related activities are up and about and the physical prowess is again in the limelight, can’t help for some to show off by working beyond their usual capabilities and aim for breaking ones or somebody else’s record. This is the goal of every Olympian.

However, records breaking are sometimes not as honorable as it usually does with the natural performance of power and strength when drugs or what is commonly known in athletic events as “performance enhancing substances” gets in the way. It may deliver more than the natural capacity of ones physical power but it’s a fake because it is doped.

Report by Erika Tapalla regarding this concern for the upcoming Olympic Games, Dr. M. Jegathesan, medical committee chairman of the Olympic Council of Asia, explained the establishment of the standards for testing against unauthorized use of performance enhancing substances in athletic events and also the creation of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to effectively enforce such standards and corresponding rules and regulation including such procedures in the Olympics if ever there will be cases that will surface similar to that of the past games.
